The population of Arab al-Hanajrah in 1948 was approximately 1,530 residents. They lived in the southeastern region of Gaza, with their homes extending near Deir al-Balah. Their lands were located between the al-Tiyaha tribe to the east, al-Jabbarat to the north, and al-Tarabin to the south. They were bordered by Bani Suheila and Khan Younis to the south, Umm al-Nusayr to the north, Tell Abu Hurayrah to the east, and the Mediterranean Sea to the west. The inhabitants engaged primarily in agriculture, like the residents of nearby villages such as Bani Suheila and Khan Younis. Most of the Hanajrah tribe belong to the Sawarka, originally from the Al-Arish region. According to the 1931 census, the population was 3,735, including 2,058 males and 1,677 females. The Hanajrah tribe consists of four clans, each with its own sheikh:

  1. Hanajrah of Abu Madin, led by Sheikh al-Hajj Farih bin Farhan bin Hussein Abu Madin

  2. Hanajrah of al-Dawahrah, led by Sheikh Ahmad Abu Daher

  3. Hanajrah of al-Sumayri, led by Sheikh Salim bin Abdullah bin al-Hajj Abd al-Sumayri

  4. al-Nusairat, led by Sheikh Ayish bin Farhan bin Tabsh bin Samur

There is no available data on any settlements established on the village lands after 1948.
