Kiryat Shmuel Colony

Kiryat Shmuel is a neighborhood located on the outskirts of the city of Haifa in northern occupied Palestine. The neighborhood is bordered by Kiryat Haim to the south and west, Kiryat Yam to the west, and Kiryat Motzkin to the east. It is situated approximately one kilometer from the coast, with a train station on its border with Kiryat Motzkin. As of 2007, the population of Kiryat Shmuel was 5,500 settlers, the majority of whom are Orthodox Jews. The neighborhood is named after one of the leaders of the Hapoel HaMizrachi movement, a movement of Eastern Jewish origin. Kiryat Shmuel was established on the sands of Haifa Bay in 1938 by members of the Hapoel HaMizrachi party, who sought to live in a town with a religious Orthodox Jewish character. The founders declined an offer to build a small neighborhood within Kiryat Haim and instead chose to establish a new town. Initially, Kiryat Shmuel was an independent municipal entity. However, in 1952, it was merged with Haifa along with Kiryat Haim.
