Nir Akiva is a settlement located in the southern part of occupied Palestine, in the northwestern Negev, near Netivot and Nir Moshe. It spans an area of approximately 1,000 dunams. The moshav was established in 1953 on land that had belonged to the Palestinian village of Kufkha. It was named after Akiva Ettinger, the head of the Settlement Department of the Jewish Agency. In the late 1970s, Amir Peretz was a member of the moshav; he purchased a farm there and cultivated vegetables and flowers for export. As of 2022, the settlement had a population of 714 settlers. Sources: Due to the limited availability of Arabic sources, Hebrew sources were used, including:

  • The settlement’s official Hebrew website

  • The “Israeli” Central Bureau of Statistics

  • Information about the village of Kufkha from the "Palestine Remembered" website
