Shlomi is a settlement located in the Northern District of occupied Palestine, in the Western Galilee. It lies approximately one kilometer from the Lebanese border, around 4 kilometers east of the Mediterranean Sea, and 3 kilometers east of Rosh HaNikra. Shlomi was officially declared a local council in 1960. The settlement was established in 1950 as a development town by Zionist immigrants from Tunisia and Morocco, on the ruins of the depopulated Palestinian village of al-Bassa (Acre District), which was destroyed during the 1948 war. The town has been primarily supported by the United Jewish Appeal and the British Zionist youth movement. Shlomi has been a target of repeated attacks by Hezbollah, including Katyusha rocket strikes on 11 May 2005, and again in 2006. On 12 July 2006, it was struck in a diversionary attack that facilitated the killing of three Israeli soldiers and the abduction of two others—an event that triggered the 2006 Lebanon War. The settlement's industrial zone spans 500 dunams, hosting factories such as the Zoglobek meat and sausage plant and the Hanita Metal Works, which manufactures cutting tools and devices for the metal industry. Shlomi serves as a regional commercial hub for surrounding villages and kibbutzim. Its local council is part of the Western Galilee Authorities Group, an economic entity focused on development and regional advancement. As of 2019, Shlomi had a population of approximately 6,511 settlers. Sources: Due to the scarcity of Arabic sources, Hebrew-language sources were used:
