Talmei Yehiel is a settlement located near Kiryat Malakhi, established on the lands of the depopulated village of Yasur. The number of settlers in Talmei Yehiel was approximately 986 in 2017, rising to 1,022 by 2021. Yasur was a Palestinian village in the northern Gaza district, occupied and destroyed in 1948 during Operation Barak on June 11, 1948. The population of Yasur in 1945 was around 1,070 inhabitants. By 1998, the number of village refugees was estimated at approximately 7,700. The village site has become a closed and fenced military area. There remains one intact house about 10 meters from the entrance, beside which is a ruined house and some cactus plants. Along the southern boundary of the fence runs an unpaved road bordered by dry cactus, olive, and almond trees. Both inside and outside the fenced area, eucalyptus trees have been planted. Additionally, on Yasur’s lands, the Bnei Ayish settlement was established, located about 10 km east of Ashdod, with a settler population of approximately 6,998 in 2017. These two settlements were established in 1949 and 1958 respectively.
