Tzur Hadassah is a local council located near Jerusalem, approximately 12 kilometers southwest of Jerusalem, situated at an elevation of 755 meters above sea level, about one kilometer west of the Green Line. Tzur Hadassah was established in 1956 as a regional center for neighboring cooperative settlements such as Bar Giora, Mata, Mevo Betar, and Nes Harim. It was founded on land that belonged to the depopulated Palestinian village of Ras Abu Ammar and was named after the Hadassah organization. The town consists of four neighborhoods: "Vatika" (Old Tzur Hadassah and Shahonot HaMeyah); New Tzur Hadassah (Shahonot HaEmek); Sansan (Mount Sansan); and Har Kitron (Mount Kitron), which together form the two halves of the horseshoe-shaped terrain of Tzur Hadassah. In 2016, expansion plans were approved to add 15,000 new settlers within five years. In 2023, the Tzur Hadassah colony was officially designated a local council. In 2022, the colony had 12,142 settlers.
