Bnei Brak is an “Israeli” settlement located in the occupied territories, on the Mediterranean coast. It was established in 1924 as a colony adjacent to the Palestinian village of al-Khayriyya, which was depopulated during the 1948 war. The settlement spans an area of 7,088 dunams. According to the “Israeli” Central Bureau of Statistics, it is home to more than 154,000 settlers. Bnei Brak is considered one of the most densely populated and economically disadvantaged “Israeli” settlements. The name Bnei Brak dates back to the Assyrian period in Palestine, referencing an ancient city known as “B’nai B’raka.” The majority of the city’s population today are ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) Jews.
