Nofekh is a communal settlement located in the central part of occupied Palestine. Its name is derived from one of the twelve stones embedded in the Hoshen, the sacred breastplate worn by the Zionist High Priest. Several nearby settlements—Shoham, Bareket, Leshem, and Ahlama (formerly known as Beit ‘Arif)—were also named after stones from the Hoshen. The settlement was established in 1949 by immigrants from Morocco, on the lands of the depopulated Palestinian village of Rantiya. As of 2022, the settlement had a population of 631 settlers. Sources: Due to the scarcity of Arabic sources, “Hebrew” sources were used:

  • Official website of the settlement (in Hebrew)

  • “Israeli” Central Bureau of Statistics

  • (for information about the village of Rantiya
