The Palestinian National Conference
Updated: Aug 16

The First Palestinian National Conference was held in Jerusalem from January 27 to February 10, 1919, at the initiative of the Muslim-Christian Associations that had emerged in numerous Palestinian cities and districts since 1918.
The conference was convened to oppose British policies in Palestine, particularly the Balfour Declaration and its proposal to establish a “national home for the Jewish people” in Palestine, which the delegates viewed as posing serious threats to the unity and social fabric of the Palestinian people and to the territorial integrity of their homeland.
The conference also affirmed Palestine’s independence and its status as an integral part of Syria and the Levant. The delegates resolved to submit two memoranda on these matters to the Paris Peace Conference of 1919.
