Tzafria is a religious colony located in the central region of occupied Palestine, near Ben Gurion International Airport. During the Ottoman period, the area of Tzafria was part of the Nahiya of Lydda, which extended from the present-day city of Modi'in-Maccabim-Re'ut in the south to El'ad in the north, and from the eastern foothills across the Lydda Valley to the outskirts of Jaffa in the west.
The colony was established in 1949 by immigrants from Czechoslovakia and Hungary on the lands of the depopulated Palestinian village of al-Safiriyya. Its name is derived from that village. It was initially called Safiriya Alef and later Kfar Safiriya, before adopting its current name. As of 2022, the number of settlers in the colony was 1,013.
