Nevei Efraim Settlement
Updated: Sep 7

Nevei Monosson, also known as Nevei Efraim or Nevei Efraim Monosson, and usually referred to by residents simply as "Monosson," is a municipal locality within the joint Yehud–Monosson municipality (alongside the Yehud settlement), located in central occupied Palestine.
As of 2003, the population was about 2,600 people, though this number is undergoing rapid growth as a result of the implementation of the "Tamar Project," which replaces 200 residential apartments with 800 apartments as part of an urban renewal project known as "Evacuation and Reconstruction," a project initiated by the residents. This is expected to nearly double Monosson's population.
According to Marom, during the 18th and 19th centuries the area belonged to the Lydda subdistrict, which included the present-day Modi'in–Maccabim–Re'ut area to the south and El'ad to the north, and extended from the eastern foothills across the Lydda plain to the outskirts of Jaffa in the west.
The Nevei Monosson company was founded in 1953 by a group of families with the support of Fred (Ephraim) Monosson, a wealthy businessman in the raincoat manufacturing industry and a prominent Zionist activist from Boston, Massachusetts. Over the years, the settlement attracted families of airline pilots due to its proximity to the airport.
Nevei Monosson was established on lands belonging to the depopulated Palestinian village of Kafr Ana, near the original site of the village.
It was initially founded as a cooperative association within a local regional council in 1953, then became an independent local council in 1964. In 2003, an elected local administration was established in Nevei Monosson with the aim of preserving the community's distinct social and cultural identity within the framework of the newly unified Yehud–Monosson municipality.
This local administration received the status of an independent urban neighborhood body (urban neighborhood administrative council) from the Israeli Minister of Interior in 2005, and is responsible for managing community affairs in Nevei Monosson, while the joint municipality handles the provision of basic municipal services.
The community includes an elementary school, a sports club, a scouting movement, a gymnasium, a cultural center, a library, and a support system for the elderly, and is characterized by a very high level of volunteer work. Community initiatives are managed through non-profit organizations owned by community members.
