Petah Tikva is a settlement located in the west-central region of Palestine. It was established in 1878 as an agricultural settlement on lands belonging to the Arab village of Mulabbis, and was the first Palestinian village on which a Zionist settlement was established during the Ottoman period.

Over time, especially after the establishment of the Zionist state, it underwent a major transformation in its structure and function, expanding into an industrial city and becoming part of the urban conurbation known as "Greater Tel Aviv."

Today it is considered one of the main centers of what is known as "Israel's Silicon Valley." It houses a variety of industries, including textiles, plastics, food processing, rubber, vehicle tires, and soap, alongside extensive groves of lemon trees. Its population in 2004 was about 179,400 people, making it one of the most densely populated cities in "Israel."
